Jim Furyk Named Captain Of The 2018 Ryder Cup Team
Golf Channel- Jim Furyk is expected to be named U.S. captain for the 2018 Ryder Cup, according to a report from the U.K.’s Telegraph. Furyk, who will be 48 when the biennial matches head to Le Golf National in Paris, played on nine straight Ryder Cup teams from 1997-2014, compiling a 10-20-4 individual record. He also served as an assistant last year at Hazeltine, where the U.S. defeated Europe for the first time since 2008.
Jimmmmmmmmy. Mr. 58 in the mother fucking building! If you don’t love you some Jimmy Furyk then you can get right outta my face. Furyk was widely considered to be the favorite for the job (and also Fred Couples who’s been the captain on multiple winning Presidents Cups teams) after he’s expressed interest in it in the past. Furyk was a vice captain under Davis Love III at Hazeltine when the USA team won it’s first Ryder Cup since 2008. He’s also played in the RC as a player 9 times so he’s very familiar with it. Furyk was the obvious pick, yes, but it’s a sold one to lead the team in France in 2018. Also, I wanna go on record and say that I’m fully on board this task force thing now. It seemed SO SO SO dumb and unnecessary at first. We looked like idiots because Europe was winning Ryder Cup after Ryder Cup and they didn’t need a stupid task force but now I’m into it. After the rousing (and equally arousing) win at Hazeltine it looks like a stroke of genius. Not to mention I like referring to them as The Committee. Just a handful of top players and Ryder Cup vets deciding who to bestow the great honor of being a US Ryder Cup captain on to. They’re like the golf mafia and I dig it. Big fan.
